Current Trends in Cut and Colour for Fall/Winter 2010:

So here's the thing: last season I wrote to you about flawless single-tone blondes. They are happening in Vancouver as I speak! Many women are opting for more drama now that summer is almost over. I have seen a couple bright blondes, and it's so refreshing to look at!

In the meantime I am always checking out the shaggy, feathery layers that have pretty much taken over the city. Don't get me wrong, this is a great haircut, but it has to be done right or your ends will look broken and ratty. I learned a Toni and Guy technique to maintain to integrity of your ends while still giving the razored look...and many of my girls are addicted to it :) My signature long layered haircut is based on this technique, and you can see it in my lovely brunette Nikki's photo above.

And so many of you are going short, too! I LOVE IT! I was a little ahead of the game last winter when I did the big chop, but oh well... Going short is a great chance to experiment with colour, so don't be afraid to try blonde or red while it's easy to grow out.

i'm noticing a lot of centre-parted bangs out there...this style is not for the faint-of-heart, because that centre part points straight down the centre of your face and can be very unflattering (that's putting it nicely) if your haircut is not right for your facial structure. Make sure you get some layers cut properly and at the correct length around your face or Joni Mitchell is gonna call you and demand her hairstyle back.

I am hooked on balayage colouring right now! It's a great way to try out highlights for the first time because it looks so natural. I actually use this technique on my own hair and it turns out great :) Another way to test out highlights is to go for peek-a-boos just at or underneath the parietal ridge so they can grow out without your roots being exposed. There's a great Schwarzkopf technique for cutting the sections over the parietal so that the peek-a-boos pop out.

Anyway, more pics are to come for this section! I am focusing on my bridal work at the moment, but once the season settles down I'll be updating here more often.

Cheers,

Victoria
